Quilt
This is the quilt that I started in high school. There's no pattern or technique to it. And I didn't really know what I was doing. As a result, somehow I messed it up terribly. I found it friday and decided to work on it. My mom and I had to cut more than half of it away because it wouldn't lay flat. I'm going to take what's left of it and add to it to make a bedspread.
This may be reason #11 why I'm a nerd (reason #10 has something to do with writing a blog no one reads). I like it, though. It makes me appreciate my Appalachian heritage. I have an aunt do makes these beautifully.

Recently
1. Two of my stories for the newspaper were printed today. I really like seeing my by line.
2. These have been a hard couple of weeks. Saying goodbye is never easy. I don't like seeing people I love hurt. It helps to know that death is not the end.
3. It's amazing the changes you see in a person when you haven't seen them in eight years.

2 months
This is from an email from a newspaper editor. You really can live two months on a good compliment.
I'm sure you'd do fine on deadline. I was just curious because the copy was so clean but on those kind of stories you have more time to refine (everybody does). Like I told you before Lori, there's no doubt about your writing talent. Very impressive.

Idol
It's humorous to me that Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is number 1 on iTunes after that guy from American Idol sang it last week. That's an amazing song, don't get me wrong. Maybe if all the contestants sang good music, these viewers would stop watching that show and go listen to real music...

Temptation
Yesterday my mom made two batches of brownies for a sunday school party. She decided they didn't turn out well enough to bring to the party so they're sitting on the kitchen counter. Now my parents are out of town for the weekend. There's no one in the house but me and the cat, and those brownies are looking pretty tempting. What are they trying to do to me? Don't they know I gave up chocolate for lent? Sundays are counted in the 40 days of lent. They're like a mini-Easter. Until now I haven't taken advantage of that. Maybe I will tomorrow...
I spent the morning in Covington for a meeting of the Jamaica Work and Witness team. We're going the first part of June and I'm excited. I came back and stopped at the mall for a hair cut and a $10 outfit. You can't beat that.

Ireland
A combination of the following things make me want to move to Ireland.
1. Damien Rice.
2. "Once"
3. "The wind that shakes the barley."
U2 didn't make the list. I'm as surprised as you are.

"Of your own consent, is there anything you give up for Lent?"
1.I don't think Lent would be so bad if I wasn't constantly reminded of what I'm missing out on everyday. Literally everyday the people at work make some sort of comment to me about it. It's usually because we always have food around the office. It's usually donuts. Or someone is sent out to get fast food. To recap, I've given up chocolate and fast food. Today, though, someone brought me in some jelly beans because they know I can't have any of the other stuff.
2. The title of this post is from a Kevin Max song. "Stereotype Be" came in the mail today. So far I like it.
3. Foreign films and good friends tomorrow - I'm excited.
4. I'm working on my first freelance story for the newspaper. I'm so out of practice and rusty. But this is what I need.

Lent and snow
I'm starting to really feel Lent. Today at work, I went out to pick up food for everybody except myself (I gave up fast food and chocolate). I wanted to pick up some candy to substitute for the chocolate that I was craving. So I pulled into the parking lot at Kroger and went inside. When I got inside, the lines at the registers were so long that I didn't think it was worth it. So I decided that this feeling is probably was lent is about. Wanting. Not being satisfied. Hunger.
I'm home early from work today. All day long we've been expecting an ice storm. We tracked it from Lexington all the way here. When it started snowing in Grayson, I started for home.

Go away.
Being hurt makes me want to leave. Join the Peace Corps. Go away to grad school. Get a job anywhere else in the world. Anything to get away from this broken heart feeling.

Just what I needed to hear
Not my will, or my plans, or the way that I want it
I'm so tired of my hands in the way
So reveal to these eyes the true heart of my Father today
Lord teach me how to pray

untitled
My new obsession is The Office. I really don't know how it made it this long before getting into it. For the past three night I've done essentially nothing but watch it on my computer.
Also, I need a life.
